Back to School Shoes for Girls

Back to school shopping inevitably means it’s time to shop for shoes. Kids' feet often change a few sizes each year, so it’s rare that you won’t need to shop for new shoes when school-time rolls around.

Deciding just what shoes to buy for girls can be challenging, especially if you’re trying to stretch your budget. Most girls will probably need at least one pair of sneakers or athletic shoes in addition to a good pair of dress shoes that will work with both skirts and pants. In addition, if you live in a cold weather climate, you’ll likely be searching for a good pair of snow boots. And if you don’t need those, you might still need a pair of rain boots.

Shops like provide a great selection of sneakers and athletic shoes for girls. You don’t have to sacrifice style for sturdiness, but if you’re only purchasing one pair, make sure they’re durable and have good traction, especially if you have an active girl.

For dress shoes, look for ballerina flats in a variety of styles and colors at shops like Flats are comfortable enough to wear at school all day, and can dress an outfit either up or down. Some are just slip-on while others have straps mid-foot or at the ankle. Bright colors, sparkles, cut-outs, bows and two-toned shoes with a different color on the toe than on the body of the shoe are all possibilities.

Both of these shops and other online retailers carry a selection of cold weather boots. Look for boots with warm liners that will provide plenty of room even on the coldest days when your girl may need to layer with thick socks. Easy on and easy off, plus a strong heel and toe, are some of the elements you’ll especially look for.

Jumping puddles is a lot more fun with sturdy rain boots. You can also find these in a variety of styles at various online retailers, including boots with handles to help even the littlest girls tug them on in the morning.
