Insects. Bugs. Creepy, crawly creatures. Some people fear them, but Orkin studies them.

So many people have bug phobias! Check out the top 10 bug phobias for yourself. Did you know that Entomophobia is the general fear of insects?! I admit, I think I might have that. People with this fear don’t want to encounter anything with six legs. Okay, yes I am pretty sure I do. It was interesting to see how many bug phobias there are!

I would say I am probably the most scared of bees. I just do not want to get stung! I was stuck in a sandbox as a kid and was stung over and over by bees. It was truly a #BugOut moment that is obviously still affecting me! But I can see the other side of the story too.

We know that every creature has its place on the planet. Even if they harm people or property, or help the environment thrive. We also know that the best way to control pests is to learn as much as we can about them in general, both the bad and the good. Orkin has been studying bugs for 100 years! They even have scientists on their staff to ensure they keep science at the forefront of our work.

They continuously take the insect insights they gain and apply them to their business. In studying bugs to better control them, Orkin has found they’re fascinated by them too. These curious little creatures are full of unexpected complexity. That’s why they created “The Ecologist” site, to celebrate science and uniqueness of bugs.

So go ahead and explore the science behind insects - and the vital role that insects have on our world. Orkin hopes that they can help spread the knowledge. The Orkin Ecologist site is a fantastic educational resource (for both novice and experienced) science lovers. Why not check it out?
