“The Grand Estates Merlot opens with rich aromas of dark cherries
and chocolate. Complex flavors of fruit, mocha and caramel are
complemented by a smooth, velvety finish.”
~ JUAN MUÑOZ OCA, WINEMAKER
We very much enjoyed our bottle of Columbia Crest 2011 Grand Estates Merlot Columbia Valley. Nestled alongside the Columbia River in eastern Washington state, Columbia Crest is one of the world's most highly acclaimed wineries. They also happen to be the producer of the 2009 Wine Spectator #1 wine of the year!
The merlot is quite expressive. Each taste is filled with hints of licorice, chocolate and dark berries. The color itself is quite dark and the flavor matches the presentation. It ends with a smooth mocha finish. I would pair this with chicken or other light meats. We enjoyed our bottle of Columbia Crest Merlot alone, but it would be very nicely paired with Rack of Lamb as Christine from Cook the Story did in the photo below. Doesn't it look divine?
