Last summer I told you about season one of the powerful docu-series on Oxygen, I’m Having Their Baby. It provided us with the intimate and emotional look at adoption by telling the too-often untold story through the eyes of the birth mother. The hour-long series documents a range of poignant, personal stories of women struggling with an unplanned pregnancy and ultimately deciding whether or not to place their baby in the hands of another family. Last season we met some brave women who were going through this difficult decision.

Catch up on season one at oxygen.com/baby. You will also find a special web series which will reconnect you with season one’s families by checking in to see what has happened with both the birth moms and the adoptive families since their episode aired. Check out “I’m Having Their Baby: Raising Vivienne” below to catch up on Mercedes’ story from season one!

As I watched season one, I really felt captivated by these brave women’s stories. I can’t imagine what they go through. But I do know how much they can change the lives of a couple who so desperately wants a family. It was hard to watch at times, but I found it very intriguing.

Season Two of I’m Having Their Baby will start on Wednesday, June 12 at 10 PM ET/PT. The next season delves deeper into the lives of birth mothers entering the adoption process, their family and friends affected by their decision and in some cases the potential adoptive couples. Get a sneak peek now at oxygen.com/baby.

  120. I have so much respect for Mercedes. Sometimes the most selfless thing you can do is give a child a loving home when you know you can't provide everything it needs. Adoption isn't for everyone but I think it takes a strong selfless individual to make this decision!

  134. I loved seeing Pamela and Richard hug Mercedes and Mike when they came in the house. You can tell that they really do love Mercedes and Mike as more than just the bio parents.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I have a slightly different viewpoint than many of the previous posters. I am the mother of a grown adopted daughter, who has never wanted to learn about her biological family (this was before the open adoption concept). They, however, have been trying to contact her, and have caused her a great deal of anxiety in trying to decide if she should respond. I will support any decision she makes, but I know from what she has told her sister that one of her major concerns is that she would hurt me if she does allow the contact. I hope that everything goes well for these families, but I suspect that in some cases the 'closeness' that comes with this contact will erode over time, and it is unfortunately possible that it is the child who will eventually pay the worst emotional price.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Both the birth mother and the adoptive parents are so strong! Being able to have an open adoption takes work and effort but it can be a beautiful thing!
