I had the pleasure of enjoying this getaway myself recently. Let me tell you it is FULL of action packed FUN!

Our hotel accommodations were at the Drury Inn & Suites in Dublin. The hotel was VERY nice and it offered some very nice perks including a FULL breakfast for free, as well as a "kick-back" at 5:30 pm also for FREE! The breakfast was very good and not just your typical donuts and coffee. This FREE breakfast included eggs, biscuits and gravy, french toast, sausage and make your own waffles! It was wonderful to not have to worry about breakfast in the morning! The "kick-back" happens at 5:30 pm daily. It is also FREE! The one time we took advantage of this, it included hot dogs, baked potatoes and make your own nachos. Adults also get three free alcoholic beverages during the kick-back! There is a soda machine and popcorn available as well. I was very pleased with all the extras that were included! They also have a very nice pool area! The pool is indoor/outdoor and it also has a hot tub. We took advantage of that every day! This hotel is the "preferred" Roar and Explore hotel. So it is likely you will get this hotel if you book the package. It was very convenient to get to to zoo as well as to COSI. Although the hotel seemed full, it was very quiet! It was also very clean! I would definitely stay here again!

On the first day we arrived in Columbus, we headed to COSI. COSI is the #1 Science Center in the nation! It was so BIG! I did not know what to expect! Included in the Roar and Explore package you get to see the Dinosaurs Exhibit as well as see the 3D Dinosaur movie on a HUGE movie screen! Also included is the general admission to COSI of course! We just had a blast exploring the huge facility!

The kids loved "Ocean" where they got to play with all kinds of water exhibits and even went down into a submarine! They got a bit wet and loved every minute of it! There were many more exhibits to explore including "Space", "Progress" and "Life".

Then we headed to the "Dinosaurs" exhibit! The kids just loved seeing the HUGE dinosaurs come to life with animatronics! There were many stations set up where you could play the simulation dinosaur game as well. After that we headed to the 3D Dinosaur movie. You need to schedule a time to see it. The screen was HUGE so we were very excited. I found the movie very interesting and informative. I would not recommend this movie for anyone under 6 or 7. It contained realistic scenes that might scare young children. It is more educational than it is entertaining. They also had a 3D movie about surfing which we did not see. We really enjoyed our day at COSI. There was SO MUCH more to see that we did not have a chance to explore. We were there for about 5 hours and saw most of it. Plan a full day there if you want to see everything.

The next day we headed to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, the #1 Zoo in the nation! We soon discovered that it is a HUGE zoo! We started our adventure and figured we would get through as much as we could! My favorite exhibits included "Polar Frontier", "Asia Quest", and "Shores".

The "Polar Frontier" is a must-see! It is a very nice exhibit that offers both outdoor and underwater viewing areas. In the underwater viewing area you could see the polar bears what seemed like all around you! There were even swimming over your head! They were so playful and active. The exhibit had a mining theme and was very nicely done.

"Asia Quest" was just beautiful to walk through not even including the amazing animals! There were Asian touches around every turn making it feel like you were halfway around the world! There was even Asian music playing. It was just a lovely experience. In this area we saw so many amazing animals including the African Lions, Asian Elephants and Siberian Tigers. The animal exhibits looked to natural and close to their habitat - yet we saw every animal close up. I was quite impressed.

Being an ocean lover I really enjoyed "Shores". I especially liked the Discovery Reef Aquarium. We got there just in time to see a diver in the tank. It was just beautiful! I could have watched the fish in the coral reef tank for hours! There were also flamingos, alligators and penguins in the "Shores" exhibit! To end our day we headed to Jungle Jack's Landing. The kids wanted to ride some rides! You can buy a wristband for unlimited rides for $8. They certainly got their money's worth! Overall we had a WONDERFUL day at the zoo! I can certainly see why it is #1!

For our final day we headed to Zoombezi Bay which is adjeacent to the Zoo. After walking in you feel like you are suddenly on a tropical vacation! The decor, music, setup was all so relaxing and it got us very excited for our day at the water park!

We got seats by "Barracuda Bay" which is a wonderful kids area! There was so much for the kids to do! They explored a pirate ship, went on several small watersides and explored a 4 story tree house! They had a blast! It was the perfect place for us to sit so they could explore within eyesight!

My personal favorites were the lazy rivers and the wave pool. The main lazy river took you around the water park and you could get on/off very easily to get you from one place to another. You could just walk the river or go in a tube. The wave pool was unlike other wave pools I have been to. This wave pool was much better because it let off tons and tons of smaller waves instead of just one giant wave like others I have been to. The wave pool is HUGE - we had so much fun there! Then of course there were the water slides! The one shown above is a giant cyclone, You get into a 4 person tube and come out of the slide into a giant funnel!

So many water slides so little time! We enjoyed about five of the water slides but did not go on all of them. The water park is very spread out but the lazy river made it easier to get from one place to another. There are so many options for all types of thrill seekers. There was literally something for everyone. Most of the water slides required you to be 48". The kids were only 46" but we managed to switch off and enjoy the large water slides as well.

We were so sad to leave! It was a perfect three day getaway! I still can't believe the great price! Only $375 for a family of four and you get SO MUCH for your money! It is such a GREAT deal and I would recommend it to anyone! What are you waiting for?! Start planning your own Roar and Explore Adventure!

  1. I'm so glad you love it! We haven't been to see the dinosaur part at Cosi but hopefully soon. And I knew you couldn't cram in the zoo in one day. Maybe half. LOL Its an awesome zoo and we love it! Great review and hope you get a chance to do it again!
